Whatever your age , googling can chase away the blues. All that surfing isn't time wasting but may actually be good for your brain. Researchers worldwide believe that the Web may help elderly patients fight chronic depression and other illnesses. Take Savio Sequeira , a 68 yr old architect, for example. For him medication and counseling was of little help when he rank into a seemingly endless depression. A chance encounter with the Internet, at the prompting of his grand daughter, piqued his interest, stimulating his intellect and combined with medication, revived his mood and memory. . Trawling the Net stimulates brain function more than other activities such as reading a book. Engaging with technology benefits the mental system as it involved complex activity which keeps the brain ticking , particularly in middle aged and elderly.. Curiosity and the urge to challenge one's mental faculties promotes neurogenesis. . Googling promotes juggling of concepts, stories and narratives, replenishing brain energy n promoting new circuits. . While helping one challenge existing concepts, googling also provides food for new intellectual debates, which linger on long after the PC has been shut down. . In the mature adult brain the words 'regrow, rewire, and retrain' play an important role. The capacity of spontaneous rescin is limited due to the paucity of stem cells. . So compensate the degeneration of nerves in elderly by regeneration of the idle ones. . Surf away cuz it's now wat the doctor ordered . .
